Picazo Buyco Tan Fider and Santos* was established on 1 September 1987. Despite having only sixteen lawyers at its inception, the Firm promptly established itself as the leading firm in specialized areas in the field of corporate law. By the time the Firm marked its first decade in 1997, the size of the Firm had doubled.

Presently, its legal staff consists of sixty lawyers, making it the fifth largest law firm in the Philippines. All of its lawyers are graduates of the leading law schools in the Philippines. The partners in the Firm are largely responsible for the Firm’s acquired reputation as a leader in the field of corporate acquisitions and reorganizations, corporate finance and initial public offerings.

Mr. Antonio A. Picazo, the Firm’s Senior and former Managing Partner and head of its Corporate and Banking Group, is one of the most respected corporate legal practitioners in the Philippines, with recognized expertise in corporate, securities and banking laws. His preeminence can be credited to his extensive experience as a commercial and investment banker as well as general counsel, director and corporate secretary of numerous corporations, including financial institutions and publicly-listed companies, since 1964.

The other name partners of the Firm have been practicing law with Mr. Picazo for the past seven to seventeen years and are specialists in their respective fields. Mr. Purisimo S. Buyco, head of the Labor Law and Litigation Group, is a seasoned litigator and labor law practitioner and has attained prominence in the field of labor law practice. He has established and maintains excellent rapport with the Department of Labor and the labor unions of the Philippines. He also enjoys the Department of Labor’s accreditation as a voluntary arbitrator. Mr. Silverio Benny J. Tan, a legal scholar with a strong background in both litigation and corporate law practice, serves as deputy head of the Corporate and Banking Group. Mr. Alex Erlito S. Fider is a corporate legal practitioner with expertise in the fields of telecommunications, real estate, corporate finance and investments. Ms. Gemma M. Santos is an acknowledged expert in corporate reorganizations and mergers and acquisitions.
